Finance <-> Consulting

I'm finishing up university this year and I've always been interested in pursuing a career in finance. However, I'm also considering consulting as a potential career path. I'm curious about the transition from finance to consulting and which finance careers make it easier to make the transition (investment banking, corporate finance, venture capital, etc.). On the other hand, if I begin in consulting, is it easy to transition to the finance sector?

Also, I'm interested in learning more about the financial divisions and jobs within consulting firms. What do they do in a day to day basis

Thanks!

What are exits like/does restructuring consulting fall under MBBs offerings?

I'm not sure that any of the MBBs offer a pure restructuring practice area...the 3 firms most known for their restructuring practices are Alvarez & Marsal, FTI Consulting, and AlixPartners...newer firms like Ankura have significantly caught up and are often seen on bankruptcy dockets as well. EY offers the service as part of their Parthenon arm as well, but not sure how they are doing.

Agree with original comment though. Good pay, decent WLB, and a lot of exit opportunities into 1) a leadership position within a client that emerges out of bx or 2) if you do a lot of creditor-side work you can often land roles at credit funds, distressed funds, etc.
