Firms/Streams similar to McKinsey BTO

Hi there,

I recently went on a recruiting event for McKinsey's BTO and found it quite rare that they are doing IT consulting without implementation. Are you guys aware of any other MBB/boutique that are similar in this sense? Even BCG's Platinion is doing implementation and less pay.

Best, Ryo

Most big strategy consulting firms have a practice group like that, McKinsey is just the only firm that has branded it as a separate office: BCG calls their practice group EIO, Oliver Wyman calls it SITO, Roland Berger has it as part of the TMT practice group,...

I had a discussion with a Bain partner and he told me that they see this area as one of their weaknesses. So they might actually be one of the few firms that do not have a separate group for it.

Truth of the matter is that almost every major firm does IT strategy/op model design/business case type work and it's a significant (and therefore unavoidable) part of consulting life. Besides the M/B/B firms, Deloitte S&O will do a significant amount of IT strategy, and Strategy& has a technology strategy competency as well. I also imagine that Accenture Strategy does much of the front-end work for its much larger implementation arm.
