FTI Consulting IMPACT format question (accepted-- but time conflict)

Accepted to FTI Consulting IMPACT program. Runs 12-4 on a Tuesday/Wednesday this spring. I will be interning on one of the days. Is the format similar to Bain Kickstart, consisting of Zooms that don't take attendance that are alright to miss? Is there interaction/1-on-1s that will make it tricky? Has anyone done IMPACT that can tell me the format?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, the FTI Consulting IMPACT program is designed as an immersive experience, typically involving structured sessions that may include presentations, interactive components, and networking opportunities. While specific details about attendance policies or format flexibility aren't explicitly outlined, programs like these often emphasize participation to maximize value, especially if they include 1-on-1 interactions or small group discussions.

If the format is similar to Bain Kickstart, it might involve Zoom sessions, but whether attendance is mandatory or flexible depends on the program's structure. Missing sessions could be tricky if they include personalized elements like networking or mentorship opportunities.

To avoid conflicts, consider reaching out to the program coordinators for clarity on attendance expectations and whether sessions are recorded or if alternative arrangements can be made. This will help you balance your internship and the program effectively.

Didn't do Bain Kickstart but did IMPACT last year and sounds similar. Webinar style w/ presentations and then also networking time where there are joinable breakout rooms with 1-2 consultants per room. Breakout rooms are separated by group/focus. More popular groups have more rooms. Rx had something like 6 if I remember correctly. Attendance is not mandatory or checked by any means.

Thanks so much for your reply. So from what you are saying, these breakout rooms are optional? I figure attendance wouldn't be checked in these rooms formally but could maybe be checked after the fact, or maybe I'm overthinking. Are cameras on or is it still webinar style?

Can you also touch a little on the process of interviewing for the following summer's internship (with preference coming from IMPACT...did they reach out automatically because you were on the master IMPACT registration list)? My fear is that they might see I didn't join a day of the programming rather than just see on my resume, "oh he did IMPACT, brownie point for him." I read somewhere that reaching out to explain scheduling conflicts (wasn't planning on it) disqualifies you for consideration for the summer internship process which obviously caught my attention and got me wondering.

It was webinar style (no cameras and you're muted) for the majority of the time. I want to say there was an hour or so of "networking" on each day in the breakout rooms. There was something like 500+ students on the webinar, granted that is across all five of their segments, but I remember it being more students than I expected. 5 segments are Corp Fi & Rx, Tech, Comms, Econ, and Forensics. Didn't get any really quality networking in, 8-12 kids per breakout room w/ only 1-2 consultants. Pretty much only get 1-2 questions and can be hard to make a real impression. I didn't find it valuable at all to be honest. As it seems you realize, I think the value of IMPACT comes from being interviewed and getting a potential offer before the job posting even goes public...the priority you mentioned. I just looked back in my emails and I got what I believe to be an automated email after the event that gave me a link to do a 2 question HireVue. If I was you, I wouldn't say anything and would just show up to as much as you can. I would try to prioritize the end of Day 2 because if I remember correctly, that's when they started talking about the interview process and how things were going to work. I didn't go through the interview process because I already had another T1 rx consulting offer that I was happy with, so unfortunately don't know much more that. If you're interested in Rx consulting as a whole though, more than happy to help out on that front.
