HELP PLEASE: Connecting with a recruiter on LinkedIn
Good morning fellow monkeys,
I'm a rising senior in Canada hoping to enter an MBB upon graduation.
This morning, I logged onto my LinkedIn and saw that a recruiter from an MBB had viewed my profile. Now, this recruiter is connected to a few of my classmates who are gunning for MBB jobs as well, so I don't think its a coincidence that she landed upon mine. She's looking at candidates who have been preparing (or so I'm assuming).
I'd like to leverage this to my advantage and connect with her without seeming too outward. I don't really want to ask any of the above students to connect me to her...
Would it be okay for me to send her a message asking for a quick phone/Skype call to find out more about McKinsey? Any other suggestions?
Must feel a bit behind the 8-ball when you see your peers (but not you) connected to her! Clearly, don't get them (your competition) involved in the process. Make sure your resume is up-to-par & then send her an email (resume attached) asking for a 15-20 minute informational call. Be smart in the wording. If she does give you her time & you make the most out of it, you will have planted yourself on their radar. The rest, I guess, will come down to your grades, extracurriculars, and formal interviews (if they come about). Good luck

Ditto to what Red Barchetta suggests.
I guess it could depend on the office, but at least in the MBB offices that I interviewed at the HR folks don't have much of a say in who gets the interview (especially if your school has OCR). While it won't hurt to get to know him/her, your time is much better spent networking with alumni than HR.
Also, don't message her on LinkedIn. Just send her a polite email.
Same as Barchetta. Connect with her and ask her politely for an information interview/quick chat. If your familiar with the format, just say something quick and sweet...
"Hello XYZ, I'm interested in XXXXX and would be humbled if you could give me some time, over the phone or simply over chat to talk about XXXXXX. Honestly, I really want to go into ABC and would love your advice/insight and to learn from your experiences"
Thats just something quick, make it sound good and fit it to your scenario. make sure it'll fit into the character limit LinkedIn has set. I'm pretty sure that message above will fit but dont use it cuz it sucks, you can make some thing better. It's just a quick example.

Update: Sent her an email for a phone chat and we're currently in the process of setting up a time and date. I also sent her my resume when she asked. I know this is an 'informational interview,' but since she has my resume, I'm guessing anything is fair game? What do you guys think?
Unfortunately, I attend a non-target so limited pedigree/alumni. I've networked extensively with one of the firms (and have received a good response) but need to put in the legwork with the other two. I've cold-called/e-mailed quite a few folks to no significant avail, so HR isn't such a bad option. Do you have any other suggestions to get in touch with the Consultants?
