Help Please! Deloitte S&O vs. LEK Junior Year Summer Internship

Hi Everyone,

I currently have offers from LEK and Deloitte S&O for summer internships, and I'm having an incredibly tough time choosing between the two. I know that the lifestyles for the two are almost polar opposite (Deloitte mostly travel, LEK mostly in office), and that LEK is a lot more strategy focused. To be honest, I don't even know if consulting is for me, I just want a valuable summer experience, and if all goes well either sign full time with the firm I choose or try MBB recruiting.

Any advice on what would be good for both the short and long term?

You should read this.

I'd go with LEK for an internship. LEK does have a better reputation than Deloitte for pure strategy work. Also, as far as I know, Deloitte S&O interns aren't usually on travel cases, so your summer lifestyle won't be all that different although its worth asking your contacts at Deloitte no-travel will be the policy this summer. In terms of overall pay, LEK should also be higher at least for full-time, as Deloitte doesn't offer any bonus at the BA level.

If you don't want to do consulting, then it really doesn't matter which one you pick.

If you do want to do consulting, and are ready to commit to it, then pick the one where you stand the best chance of surviving the up-or-out staff cuts that will hit your recruiting class after two years.

First off, congrats on two great offers. You certainly can't go wrong with your decision. Today, I think Deloitte's Strategy & ops practice is very strong and a great place to be. It's heading in the right direction and getting there really quickly.

I wouldn't really focus on lateraling because in consulting at the analyst level.. no one laterals.. it's not banking. Every firm does ops and idk why people on WSO are against ops. Deloitte will have a lot of resources for you to leverage throughout your analyst stint.

one thing you should consider is size of the firm... big/small?
