How would you go about choosing your projects?

Consultants, I need some advice on projects.

  1. Would you choose a two-year project that spans from start to end, or multiple short-term projects spanning from 3-6 months that focuses on a specific part of an engagement?
  2. If I'll like to specialize in a certain area but no relevant project is available, would you recommend sitting on the bench, or just taking up any other project? How long would that be considered acceptable?
  3. What type of projects are out there? Are there any recommended projects or projects to avoid?
