Stories of People Getting Hired for FT MBB Past the September Deadline

  • Consulting Recruiting 2023: Most firms have deadlines in mid-late September. However, there are instances where firms might have additional rounds or consider late applications, especially if they have unfilled positions or if you have strong networking connections within the firm.

Feasibility of Lateral Move from IB to Consulting After One or Two Years

  • Non-target student with full-time offers to 2/3 MBB's: Transitioning from IB to consulting is feasible. Many professionals make the switch after gaining some experience in IB. The skills and experience you gain in IB are highly valued in consulting, particularly in strategy and operations roles.

Immediate Lateral Move vs. Toughing It Out

  • BB IB intern -> FT consulting?: The decision to lateral immediately or tough it out is subjective and depends on your personal circumstances and career goals. If you are certain that consulting is your desired path, starting the transition sooner might be beneficial. However, gaining a couple of years of experience in IB can also strengthen your profile and make you a more competitive candidate for top consulting firms.

Recommendations

  • Networking: Engage in networking events, coffee chats, and workshops offered by consulting firms. This can help you stay on their radar and potentially open up late application opportunities.
  • Application Strategy: If you missed the September deadline, consider applying to other consulting firms that might have different timelines or additional hiring rounds.
  • Skill Development: Continue to develop relevant skills and gain experience in your current role, which will make you a stronger candidate when you decide to make the switch.

Appreciate all advice.

Very feasible, a couple of my friends did exactly that. Bear in mind that you will be down- levelled when you join MBB back to entry level.

If you’re set on MBB, would recommend spending a year in IB and reapply next year. You’ll be in a good place experience wise and when you join you’ll accelerate past your class because you know how to model well and the learning curve won’t be as steep
