Incoming Strategy&: Switching from Corporate to Deals/M&A

Hi,

I'm starting as an FT Associate (the post-undergrad role) at S& in London in 2022. Although I stated a preference for the Deals/M&A team in my application, I was assigned to the Corporate Strategy team (meaning that my chances for PE recruitment went from slim to non-existent). Given that the two teams have different onboarding and training in the first month, is it possible for me to switch the teams before starting or should I wait with a 'transfer' request until I'm in the office for a bit? Does anyone have any experience with moving between Corporate and Deals within S&? Thanks!

Trace_, what's your opinion? Comment below:

Know of someone that moved the other way around lol, quoting poor WLB in deals (non stop DDs).

Probably possible to go Corporate > Deals as well, but definitely have a chat with the development team early

Interesting, that's good to know! Do you happen to be familiar with the timing of their transfer (i.e. did they wait until the promotion to Senior Associate after 2 years or did it happen earlier)? Would appreciate any info
