Is AlixPartners a Good Firm

Unlikely that anyone on here might have some insight, but decided to post nevertheless. In the context of their RX group, to what extent does Alix get involved in operational control for example, interim management or CRO mandates versus pure advisory work, in high profile cases? What about compared to the competition (A&M and FTI)?

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Background: Distressed PE, considering moving to the consulting side.

AlixPartners is highly regarded in the restructuring (RX) consulting space, particularly for its operational focus. Based on the most helpful WSO content:

  1. Operational Involvement: AlixPartners is known for being more operationally hands-on compared to some of its competitors. They often take on interim management roles, including Chief Restructuring Officer (CRO) mandates, in high-profile cases. This sets them apart from firms that focus more on pure advisory work.

  2. Comparison to A&M and FTI:

    • A&M (Alvarez & Marsal): Similar to AlixPartners, A&M also has a strong operational focus and frequently takes on CRO roles. However, A&M tends to separate administrative tasks from strategic work, which can influence the type of exposure consultants get.
    • FTI Consulting: FTI is generally perceived as being more focused on creditor-side work and less operationally involved compared to AlixPartners and A&M. They do have a presence on the debtor side but are not as operationally intensive.
  3. Industry Reputation: AlixPartners is particularly well-known for its expertise in industrial and automotive sectors, and its operational approach makes it a strong player in the RX space. This operational focus can be a significant advantage if you're coming from a distressed PE background and are looking for a consulting firm that aligns with your experience.

If you're considering a move to the consulting side, AlixPartners could be a great fit, especially if you're interested in roles that involve deeper operational control and interim management responsibilities.

Yep, one of the leading RX Consulting firms, alongside FTI and A&M.

Below that, there's Ankura, BRG, M3, and Accordion (RX practice growing, with MDs getting poached from the 3 firms mentioned above).

One of the higher-ups at Centerview RX also came from AlixPartners, so the skill set can definitely translate to RX banking as well.
