Is consulting a good starting point for your career

Hi all, I'm from Hong Kong and I'm new to this site. I find so much insightful information here thank you guys.

So i had a debate with my friend about whether consulting is a great start for a fresh graduate. I told him all the pros of consulting, interesting projects across different industries, smart collegues, great exit opportunities, blablabla My friend disagreed with me and he said that I should go straight to industry because that's where you really develop deep vertical knowledge about the sector which you will never get in a consulting firm. and then you can join consulting company as an expert later in your career if you still want to.
So what you guys think about the pros and cons of consulting versus industry?
