Leaving a job under one year for an almost 50% bump in pay
Here's the story. Last year around this time I was at a consulting gig. I left it to do a science R&D gig. A headhunter from a different consultancy finds me 10 months after I left said consulting gig to try to lure me back to the same client engagement, albeit with a different firm.
I've never left a job under one year before. Is this a serious problemo/resume stain?
FWIW, I was paid 95K originally at the first consulting gig; the R&D pays 130K, and now the offer is 180K. I am getting paid almost double for EXACTLY the same work.
I'm thinking I should just take the money and run.
Thoughts?
I'm usually against leaving multiple jobs early, but that is a huge pay bump. I'd take the money. Just try and stick around at the new shop for a little longer.
I don't see this as being a problem. See if you can hit the 12-month mark with your current firm, but if not, take the money and don't look back. If it ever comes up in discussion (interviews, MBA admissions), simply state the facts of the case and be sure to include an increase in responsibility and leadership along with the pay bump. You'd be irrational to pass up that offer.
Fuck the resume gap. Could you live with yourself leaving 50k on the table in this economy?
Take the new job and don't look back
Just put the years (not months) on your resume and you should be fine. If you started 10 months ago, you can include 2011 - 2012. Not a real big deal. Unless you see three or more short stints in the past 5 - 10 years.
