Looking for high end shops on the west coast

Does anyone have a good list of firms on the west coast that do consulting or research similar to McKinsey, bain, BCG, but have more of a boutique feel? I have a friend looking at leaving NYC and wants to leverage his mck experience at a smaller high end shop that does core strategy, financial technology analysis or financial engineering analytics? I know a few partners out there at shops on the east coast, but no so much out west.
