Low GPA, NON-target, Starting my career

Hello,
I have never posted on here before, but I need advice. I am looking to work in consulting post grad (May 2026). Some background; I am pursuing an accounting degree, I have a low GPA (Just Below a 3), and don't go to a target school by any means (big state, not a good one). My GPA being low had a lot to do with family/personal issues in my early years in school. It is not a reflection of my work ethic or knowledge. I have worked very hard to improve it over the past couple of years and it looks like by graduation it will at least hit a 3.0. I have done the coffee chats and have been networking for the past few months. I have relevant internship experience at small firms I got through making connections and not being asked about my GPA lol. I worked hard, did what I needed to do to stand out there, and no one ever questioned that I was not fit for my roles or was in over my head. I am not going to disclose those roles because I want to remain anonymous but let's just say I learned the relevant baseline skills needed to work in this industry.

I am very realistic about my situation, I am not getting into any of the top firms, probably not even the lower tiers. My plan as of now is to find a good boutique firm that will take a chance on me and then work from there. I am not looking for any criticism, I am very aware that no matter what was going on in my life at the time, my GPA is going to hinder me. I am just looking for information about smaller firms' you guys would recommend or any advice from those of you that may have been in my situation before. Thanks in advance!
