Management Consulting from UMich LSA
I’m a high school senior: Will being in the LSA help me with getting a job in management consulting (MBB/Big4/OW or any of the other places). Right now I’m thinking of being either an Economics or Financial Math major(possibly double Majoring but not too sure). I didn’t apply for Ross BBA so there is a tiny chance I could transfer in but since I’m looking to go for an MBA in the future would economics and math be a better academic route? I could also take a lot of electives through Ross and possibly apply for the minor to access at least some of the career center recruiting? I also have an offer from Warwick in the U.K. so if possible I’d like to know about that vs Mich LSA as well.

There are pluses and minuses to recruiting for consulting from LSA. Both of those majors are viable options to get into consulting - a quantitative major reassures recruiters that you can handle the quant aspects of the job. Friends I have who majored in the liberal arts at UM (psych, art history, sociology, etc) had a harder time getting into consulting unless they had something quantitative to back it up. However, soft skills are really important as well. This is just my opinion, but I think tacking on a kind of liberal arts minor could definitely be beneficial. It shows on paper that you can handle the social aspect of the job as well. This is generally the concern for recruiters when they recruit from the College of Engineering. Your major disadvantage against Ross kids is that they have their own recruiting portal that is MUCH more robust than the LSA portal. You'll have to keep up to date with recruiting events because sometimes firms only list them on the Ross site. The advantage against Ross kids comes in that you're different from them. LSA offers so many different ways to learn, and firms definitely recognize the value of NOT having just business school students. The key is being able to market yourself as a valuable asset to the firm. What makes you a good fit for them and a good addition to the team? Articulating your skills and value is critical. Just my two cents.

Therefore if I'm not wrong what you mean to say is I can differentiate myself by being in the LSA and through good networking and developing a good personality I can find jobs? Thank you so much because till now the picture painted about the LSA was very bleak and you have given me so reassurances.
