MBB Exit Paths
I recently finished recruiting and was really lucky to receive an offer and sign with one of the MBBs in a good city (think NYC/SF/Chicago). I'm 100% taking a break from thinking about job/recruiting related things, but also recognize that a lot of exits from consulting have fast moving recruiting timelines and so I don't want to get behind in terms of understanding these exits and their respective processes.
I wanted to see if anyone could provide insight on the main exits from MBB and which are most common? I know that these are slightly firm dependent but at least it's my understanding that they are relatively similar across the board. Ones that come to mind are MBA pursuit, PE, VC, Corp Strategy, but I would love to see if there are other prominent ones or other possible paths. Are any more accelerated processes than others?
Additionally, is there anything that people who are in consulting now wish they had done earlier on to better prepare themselves for success when pursuing these exit opportunities? Really appreciate any input/insight, thanks so much!

McK and BCG seem to have more CS majors (e.g., those that did SWE internships at FAANG but consulting full time), which results in more tech PM exits from Mck / BCG (and BCG in particular)

You'll hear so much about this when you start full time. People are constantly exiting to things.
From my internship, it seems that there were a few key paths
- Startup
- Corp Strat (For people who want better lifestyle with good pay)
- PE
I forgot to mention tech PM
For PM roles, are there certain skillsets that are really valued? Like coding for example? Also do tech companies have headhunters sort of like PE firms that recruit people from MBB to PM roles?
Do post-mba consultants go to pe?
Not nearly as common. Post-undegrad MBB --> PE Associate is a very common path. You'd essentially have to exit to Associate even as an MBA hire, as funds won't let you join them at a higher level without substantial PE experience already. For post-MBAs, PE Associate isn't nearly the same pay bump that it is for post-undergrads and consequently not nearly as attractive.
Lots go to startups. Apparently a majority of the externships/secondments at my firm's office are to startups.
This is probably a dumb question but how exactly does head hunting work for PE/VC when they're targeting people who work at MBB? Are there even head hunters at VC firms or is it mainly PE?

I'm not sure because I haven't started full-time yet, but I had a MD of a semi-large fund reach out to me over LinkedIn as I was wrapping up my internship. They were a shop that exclusively poaches ex-MBB interns/consultants, so that's maybe not the norm. Through our conversation, it sounded like most major PE shops start recruiting MBB consultants/ BB bankers before they even wrap up their first year on the job.
Out of curiosity what did they say? Never heard of recruiting before starting full-time, curious as to what that convo even looked like
