MBB Rescinding Internship Offer
Hi
I'm a college junior who was offered a McKinsey internship in their New York office for this summer. I go to a pretty hard school (think MIT, Harvey Mudd, Chicago, Caltech) and have doing dismally in a computer science elective (my first ever CS class) - so much so that I have to withdraw the class. This is due to personal issues as well as the sheer intensity of my other classes this semester.
Will having a "W" (=Withdraw) on my transcript make McKinsey rescind my offer? It is my first one and in an elective. How do I actively address this? Am I completely fucked for future recruiting? Any advice from personal experience would be amazing.
A friend of mine had to withdraw from a class for administrative reasons (academic advisor messed up) and that was never a problem with respect to his recruiting for MBB internships. He now got a full-time offer at his firm of choice. Worst case scenario be prepared to defend it if they ask, but I would be surprised if they rescinded an offer they made.
Note: That was for a European office; US offices might look further into it.
Yeah, you're fucked. You'll get blackballed on the street, so good luck joining Wall Street anytime soon. No consultant worth their pay should withdraw courses in college. Posts like this make me cringe and think about the deterioration of candidates in Wall Street. At least, it's McKinsey's problem now.
Can you not?
His willingness to be sarcastic about a problem like this should have provided you with the answer you were looking for.
No one cares about withdrawn classes.......
