McKinsey Boston vs. NY

Got an offer for McKinsey in Boston but kind of feeling FOMO for NY. Any thoughts on how the two offices compare? Wondering if I’d miss out on staffing or exit opps by not being in HQ (understand they are both T1 offices). TBH, I see myself having a better QOL in Boston and prefer Boston as a city.

imo not worth sacrificing QOL for being in NYC. there's no likely shortage of whatever exit opps you're looking for in Boston, and unless you think you'll have exhausted all of them as options by the time you're done with McK, I'd go to the city you prefer.

IF you want to be in NYC long-run, then NYC might be worth it

This site has a massive hard-on for NYC but Boston has a lot going for it, especially if you’re at McK. There is real access to nature, skiing, hiking, biking, ocean, etc. You don’t hear a lot about that on this website since the average WSO monkey works weekends, but it’s a real benefit for consultants if you care about that.

If you’re flying every week, Logan is a million times better than LGA/JFK/Newark. Door to door in the morning is under 10 minutes from most places in town.

And Boston gets better over time as more and more friends from college come for grad school.

If food and nightlife and being in a real tier 1 city are your KPIs, Boston will never win there. But there’s a lot to like if you look for it.

Nightlife is not the same, but you will be travelling 90% of the time where you may find yourself in NYC more often for projects anyway. Brand new Boston office is also nicer and it's relatively less expensive (sort of).

Likewise but for DC. Does career progression really not depend on office, as they always say about McK?
