McKinsey Generalist vs. Digital Business Analyst

I'm super interested in technology and have an offer to intern at McKinsey this summer as a generalist. However, I recently learned about the digital practice, and that they get first preference on a lot of the digital/tech-related projects since they're in the digital practice.

Obviously this seems substantially better for anyone interested in technology, so I'm curious if anyone has heard of people switching from Generalist as an intern to Digital for full-time? Does anyone know how meaningful this distinction is in terms of how much better Digital would be regarded, particularly for tech exit opps? Internally everyone claims they're basically the same since Digital does Generalist work...but having first preference on technology work seems to be pretty valuable.

Thank you for reading!

I've heard mixed feedback from Digital - some good, some more nuanced - depends a lot on your engagement(s) where you might indeed not do something very digitally advanced.

I tend to favor interning as a generalist and maybe join Digital full-time, which would allow you to see the generalist angle before committing. Would be great to get input from others with a better view on Digital...

Exit opps are pretty much similar based on name recognition, but your relevant case experience might give you an edge.
