Missed call from a recruiter - found out over a year later

In fall 2018 I was recruiting for an internship position at an MBB firm, and made it to the final rounds for one of them, and did reasonably well (knocked one case study out of the park, did well on behavioral parts, and did meh on the toughest case I'd ever done). I never received any news back from the firm via email or via phone (or so I thought), so I assumed I didn't receive an offer. Well, today I went through my old voicemails and found one I'd never listened to from a number I didn't recognize. I listened to it and discovered that it was a recruiter from that MBB office a week after the final round interview, and while she did not give any specifics, she told me to call her back. Needless to say, I didn't, because I never saw the missed call or voicemail in the first place. Could it have been a final offer? Or would I have at least received other voicemails and what not? Really, I just want to know what the purpose of the call was - do MBBs call you as a courtesy to reject you and let you know what to improve upon, or to let you know you received an offer, or both? I also ended up getting an invite to and participating in the firm's virtual "intro to the firm and consulting" summer series, but didn't recruit for full time because I received an offer in banking and took it. To be clear, I'm still very happy with where I ended up (in banking), but am concerned that I may have shot myself in the foot and will constantly ask myself "What if?" if I end up unhappy with my job or career and I whiffed hard on an MBB offer. Definitely will be checking my voicemail frequently from now on, regardless.

Acceptance notification goes out both verbally and in writing. pretty much all companies I ever worked for. the recruitment service will call you until they get hold of you to confirm decision and handle paperwork etc

Don’t sweat. The firm would‘ve aggressively tried to reach you by phone or email to convert your offer if you had one. Also, offer calls almost always come from one of the interviewers rather than the recruiter.
