Negotiating campus hire offer
Hi guys,So just received an offer from a tier 2 consulting firm as a campus hire from a big ten state school with a decent business school reputation. (GPA 3.5) I have two internships as a financial analyst but this is my first consulting opportunity. While i am happy with the opportunity, i feel like I'd like a higher compensation to take the role and not think abou it. So starting range for first year consultants is around 80k-95k, and they're offering 77.5k. was wondering if negotiating the starting salary and possibly ask for about 7.5k more would be rude or not? (Especially as a campus hire) and if not, do you guys have any tips on how i could successfully do this? Im a first generation college student and don't have anyone to really guide me regarding topics like this. Id appreciate all and any advice fellas.
Unlikely to budge. HR for campus hired need to churn out these offers, they are all standard and would probably move on if you don't like the conditions.
To expand on / clarify this, there is a defined payscale that your offer is against, with typically zero negotiating opportunity. At major firms, your base salary is strictly determined by your level
The real question is which T2 (ATK/LEK/OW/EY-P/S&) is offering $77.5k?
Might be non strategy? Think all t2 in strategy are 85+ unless in very lcol.
T2 as its used in these types of situations only refers to the strategy shops
I'm guessing OP is conflating a non-strategy offer at a B4 or comparable with T2. I'd be shocked if a T2 offered 77.5k.
Contact your school's career center. They can help you with negotitating and typically have historical salary data that may be helpful.
