NERA Econ Consulting v. Brattle Group

I've received offers for the RA position both from Brattle Group and NERA Economic Consulting. I'm interested in hearing any differences that anyone cares to offer about the two firms (including prestige, strong/weak practice areas, work/life, culture, etc.) That said, I got to meet the team I would be working with at NERA, and find that they're a likable and reasonable bunch. Thus, the following are my major concerns:

  1. Diversity of work (At NERA, I would be working in one group of one practice area, whereas at Brattle I would have some discretion of projects I would like to work on as time went on)

  2. Culture / team environment (I like the team at NERA, but am unsure of what Brattle will be like in practice; during the interview, things were much more formal and there was less transparency as a result)

Any advice or insight on these matters would help me a lot. Also, if you have questions for me, ask away. Thanks in advance, y'all!

I would suggest not picking the one that silos you in one practice area. Its unlikely you know what type of work you enjoy. Prestige is probably equal. Choose based on location preference if all else equal. Hiring process is typically not reflective of actual culture at these shops, from my experience.

Thanks for the reply. In regards to your mention of location preference, I have a choice within one firm. One is the HQ and has twice as many employees as the other. A bit vague, but do you have any insight on the potential differences (in workload, culture) between a larger and mid-sized office in EC?

I'm trying to decide whether to consider this in my choice or solely to pick the city.
