Oliver Wyman Brand? Not MBB, but people talk like they are kinda on MBB's level

Hey guys,

I was curious as to why people always talk about Oliver Wyman being prestigious and what not? It is not a MBB firm, but people talk like it is on MBB's level. OW is definitely tier 2. Do people think it might join MBB in the future?

Also in a lot of rankings online, it is ranked really low. Like in this ranking: "The Most Prestigious Consulting Firms, 2018". Big 4 firms are ranked and OW isn't even on this list. I know these rankings aren't always accurate, but still wondering why OW is ranked so low.

When discussing consulting firms at school, I've heard some people are impressed when they hear OW is coming to campus and others don't even know the firm...

Thanks guys!

Speaking from a London perspective. They like to brand themselves as similar to mbb but definitely are not. If you look at their recruitment, they Quant tests they have are definitely more challenging than the usual ones even compared to IBS. However as for work and presence in real terms I do not think that they are on part with even the Big 4. Speaking from a former big 4 advisory background.
