Partner said he would get me the interview

So an alum of my school today told me that he could ensure that I got into the interviewing process at one of the B's. Now I know the rest is up to me and case prep is going to be big...

But my question is--are my resume and CL not really factors at this point? He told me to cite him and another managing partner in the CL, but that's about it. I am most concerned because my resume has been rather wordy (http://www.razume.com/documents/20954) and I'm not sure how to minimize that further.

Also not coming from a business background--what are the best ways to be successful in the interview. I'm trying to get as much feedback as possible and as much insight as I can!
