Powerpoint Case Interview

So next week I have a case interview and was wondering if some people could help me find some examples. I've gone through victor chens stuff but I don't think they were the same examples.

They are going to give me 20ish slides, give me 50 minutes then come back and ask me to analyze the slides and draw a conclusion. I was told most of these slides are charts. I assume they will be questioning my conclusions either way.

Is there any website where I can see some sample charts and slides that are commonly used, I just want to have some practice.

You could ask them more about the length and structure of the interview. E.g. if you're given 3 hours to look at a company and do a quick model of it's income statement + some slides to present your analysis.

Not sure how it is like in the States, but I did a final round presentation for FT at a large fund (Fidelity/Templeton etc) in Hong Kong. We were given a company and had a week for doing up slides and a model (projecting two years earnings ahead) individually. On the day itself each of us had 15 min to present and 15-30 min where we got grilled by the research directors and PMs.

I did get through that round, so here is what my slides had (off the top of my mind): - intro to company (financials etc) 1-2 slides - current situation 1 slide - drivers/catalysts (short term long term) 2 slides - risks (short term long term) 2 slides - valuation of the company (incorporating those drivers and risks) 1 slide - appendix 60+ slides

The HR printed out the slides and model for the interviewers.

So are you working in ER right now?

einvarWill be working in ER at a BB in Asia come next week.

What made up your appendix? Was it mainly backup information such as 10Ks, Qs, Press releases, your valuation model?

The company was a departmental store/mall operator, so the appendix consisted of stuff like: - locations and maps of the stores/malls (since traffic is important) - competitive comparison (in terms of product offerings and concessionaires on board) + (financial analysis in terms of ratios, how an asset-heavy vs asset-light business model affects margins and expansion plans) + (expansion plans vs other departmental store operators) etc - went into more detail on catalysts/drivers and risks, usually bringing up charts to support - individual store statistics e.g. SSG, deconstructed their concessionaire commissions and sales mix since they didn't disclose those - other stuff like historical PE and PB bands, historical sales trends, etc., anything under the sun related to the company and the industry that the interviewers might ask

extremely useful einvar! thanks. just spoke to the HR and she said its gonna be 30 minutes preparation and then 10 minutes presentation, on the spot. so i guess that wont involve as much details as in your case.

but still not entirely clear about what will come up, or how best to prepare myself, any thoughts?

I would structure your slides the same way he structured his without the appendix obviously. Your presentation won't have as much of a foundation as his, but the structure of the information should be the same.
