PwC Delivering Deal Value Interview
Hi All,
I've got a phone interview with PwC's DDV team in London for a manager position this week and am seeking advice. Pertinent background info:
-I'm currently a senior associate at another Big4. What should I expect interviewing for a manager role? Any manager specific things I should be brushing up on? -I'm currently US based. Is there anything specific I should know about interviewing in the UK?
Does anyone know anything about this group and their work? Are they focused on more CDD/ODD/synergies, or is it more of a post-merger integration role?
Any general tips/advice/info that you fine people can bestow would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
It should be a combination of ODD/synergies/merger integration. You may end up doing the same thing within that realm repeatedly (once they see you as having "expertise") but it's hard to say which now - it will depend where the needs are. Also, if you're an audit senior they will probably bump you down to a senior (and not an experienced one) as you go through the interview process. Comp would be higher than what you make in audit at the same level and I'm not sure that you would be setting yourself up for success by saying "manager or bust".
The work will be challenging and interesting and the comp is better than assurance. Think long and hard how you feel about busy season because that that sort of a role will be short sprints of busy season hours throughout the year (and never in a way you can plan). If that's not a problem it's the type of work that will give you lots of opportunity down the line.
Have they discussed sponsorship with you? It was a nightmare getting a work Visa in the UK. Make sure that they know you would require sponsorship.
Thanks. I'm in the merger integration group at my firm now, so I'm well aware of the burn rate and pace of deal work. I've never done any ODD work and my experience with synergies is light, so I'd be ok with bump down to senior, as long as it gets me abroad. Have you worked with the group before?
Just how much of a nightmare was it getting the work Visa?
Yes, they were my external counterparts for about 6-9 months in a prior role.
The Visa required constant babysitting and still ended up a month late so my flat sat empty for 30 days. I wasn't even getting one to become a permanent resident - I was warned that those can take even longer and are more likely to run into problems. I eventually went to the Netherlands in the meanwhile which I'm not 100% sure was totally on the up-and-up.
If I may ask - what type of work did they do for you? DD or PMI stuff? If that's giving too much away, no worries.
I would assume they are aware - I clearly stated my need for sponsorship in my application. Though hanging out in NL while they figure their shit out doesn't sound like a bad month at all (optics aside).....
Out of curiosity, how did it go? I know it was 9 years ago.

Big 4 is always starved for even semi qualified managers. Most people at this point transition into CF/IB/AM/PE etc. As long as you don't spaz out, you should be fine.
Unfortunately none of those roles are beating down my door at the moment, so onward to manager (hopefully) it is.
OP why do you want to leave the U.S. to go to the UK?
