Requesting referrals?

How do I go about this, I feel like I have a lot of good connects at each firm, but should I just straight up ask for a referral? Is that too much / not the norm in consulting?

when I recruited in banking it seemed a lot more routine where ppl would just say they'd push my resume without me even needing to ask?
