Resume for LIfe science/health consulting...

I have no experience in consulting but have a good amount of hospital volunteering and unpaid/paid/internship biomedical research experiences. For applying to consulting positions related to these fields, way would be the most strategic way of describing my past experiences? Should I put less emphasis on research and more on other extracurricular work (to highlight lesdership...?)

And is a blurb at the top of the resume (above the education section) necessary?
