Screen shot to excel converter

TLDR; Built a website that takes images of tables and converts them into formatted Excel files in under a minute.

Have been working on a website called Grabsheet (grabsheet (.) com) for the past several months with some friends who work in finance/consulting. We noticed that a decent amount of our time initially spreading numbers involved manually inputting data from tables into Excel. This wasn't too bad for US companies on BamSEC, but particularly taking public filings from any other country or when using research reports, this could be a pain. We asked and looked around, and couldn't find anything that seemed to quickly and securely take care of this conversion (there are a number of PDF to Excel converters online, but if you only needed a single table from a PDF or didn't feel comfortable uploading an entire PDF to a website, the workaround was a hassle).

That's why we built Grabsheet, where you can screenshot a table (or you can upload up to 50 at once!) and convert just that into Excel while you work on other things. You can save yourself from the data entry, and focus on setting up your spreadsheet or anything else. Grabsheet is secure, unlike some of the other free PDF converters, in that we give users control over how their data is used; we never collect data that you do not want us to.

If you have any suggestions or feature ideas, would love to hear them :)

This is great, thanks for sharing. What would be great would be if you could create something that could back-out estimated growth numbers from a bar chart

I used to pay an Indian freelancer for $5/night out of pocket who could do data entry and arithmetic for me. I had to give them my capiq log in, but it was totally worth the small risk. There was one night where I had to spread comps, build a few p&l's and summarize a ton of equity research, I enlisted 5 freelancers and only reviewed the work in the morning. Best life hack I ever had in IB

What would happen if you get caught though? Thank God it never comes to that

Pretty hard to get caught, anyone who would care about this type of behaviour would be so far removed from this that they wouldn't even know who I am, let alone knowing what kind of work I was doing.

It was a slippery slope if I'm being honest. I started with one, and it considerably changed my work-life balance. The processes in banking are extremely archaic that other industries can produce similar work with pure automation, and cheaper. I have to say it actually accelerated my career.. I was doing more reviewing than data entry/modeling, freeing up time to polish materials and making sure everything was flawless. I also had more time to manage more work, and honestly I no longer felt the exhaustion that was taking over my life

There's a reason they say a "monkey" could this work

Anybody else paying for this but had it not working for the past several weeks? I've reached out to the company several times but heard nothing back. It's too bad, it was a really useful product. Would be great if anyone could suggest an alternative
