Signing and then canceling
What happens if you sign and then decide to take another offer before you start if the contract says either side can end it at anytime?
Is that considered a real bad thing to do or does it happen regularly?
If the contract says you can renege on signing and you think your other offer will suit your career path and interests more closely, then do it.
In this current economic climate I don't think reneging is very common but it does happen from time to time.

Consulting is a relationship business. You're going to start a career in relationship management by destroying one of the first, fundamental relationships on an official document by reneging?
If you were an international student with a job in your home country but got an offer in the US, I'd understand. But simply to upgrade? Did this come within a reasonable timeframe of your first offer, or did it seem like you were clearly still interviewing after you accept the offer.
I mean, for your own benefit, these are questions you want to ask yourself before diving too deep into the industry.
