Staying in touch with interviewer post rejection?
Was rejected from a first round interview at MBB firm and one of my interviewers actually had a very similar background as me. We both studied similar research areas etc and I felt that I had established a good rapport and toward the end of the interview was actually asked questions about my research as well. Unfortunately, the case just didn't pan out. Asked for feedback and received helpful comments regarding my interview and they wished me well with my ongoing research projects etc.
Would it help at all to try to stay in touch with them for future potential applications at this firm? I would love to reapply again someday, potentially.
I also went through something similar recently, maybe someone with more experience can give better advice but I would definitely say to stay in touch. I think that staying in touch will help with receiving an interview in the future (because they can see what you are up to and potentially see progress + they can get to know you better and may push for you harder in the future).
Keeping in touch may also help you develop a mentor-mentee relationship which may end up being more useful to you in the future than someone who you just meet for coffee for the purposes of a referral. Also I could see them being more willing to help you prep or give you advice for reapplication, B-school or maybe even applying to other jobs, since they are likely to be well connected.

After a grueling recruiting cycle, I was able to secure a great position with a well known tech F500. I could not have done this without the help of an interviewer who rejected me but was kind enough to give me a call and give advice on how to improve my interview skills. I want to shoot her an email giving her the results of my internship search and thank her again for the great and thoughtful advice. But would this be weird ?
If she was as helpful and considerate as you say she was, she will be excited or at the very least polite about you telling her the good news. Who wouldn't want to hear that they did a good job in helping someone? I say do it.
