T2 to MBB (London)

Hi everyone, I joined a T2 Consulting firm a year ago in London and would like to move to MBB.

Is the only route through applying to the graduate roles in Sep-Dec or do these firms ever make offers to consultants with 2 years of experience outside of the graduate recruiting cycle?

Thank you for your help.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, transitioning from a T2 consulting firm to MBB in London is possible, but the approach depends on your experience and timing:

  1. Graduate Recruiting Cycle: The most structured and common route is through the graduate recruiting cycle, typically running from September to December. This is especially relevant if you have less than two years of experience, as MBB often considers candidates with limited experience as part of their standard graduate intake.

  2. Off-Cycle Opportunities: While less common, MBB does occasionally make offers to consultants with less than two years of experience outside the graduate recruiting cycle. This typically happens when there are specific openings or needs in certain offices. Networking with current MBB consultants and recruiters can help you identify these opportunities.

  3. Networking: Focus your networking efforts on individuals involved in recruiting at MBB. As highlighted in WSO threads, reaching out to alumni, attending events, and leveraging LinkedIn can be effective ways to build connections and gain insights into potential openings.

  4. Timing and Preparation: If you're targeting the graduate cycle, ensure you're well-prepared for the application process, including case interviews and behavioral questions. If you're exploring off-cycle opportunities, stay proactive in networking and keep an eye on job postings.

In summary, while the graduate recruiting cycle is the primary route, off-cycle opportunities may exist, and networking is key to uncovering them.

Thank you, this is very helpful. Do you ever offer grad roles outside of the standard recruiting cycle (Sep-Dec)? And how important do you think networking/ referrals are in London? Much appreciated
