Tier 2 consulting to Private Equity

Salut!

Does anyone know the exit ops for tier 2 consulting. I know MBB can have PE exit on investment teams. But does anyone know about shops like Oliver Wyman, Kearney or LEK. I know OW is big on financial service, but does that translate to being able to exit to a small- mid size  PE shop?

Here before all the sophomore OW lovers drool everywhere.

In all seriousness , if you take a peak on LinkedIn you’ll see T2 people frequently at MM/LMM PE shops. It’s definitely not as common as MBB, but it’s also not out of the picture.

Not sure about Kearney. Check Linkedin or LMM/MM firm’s websites and you’ll see OW/LEK/S& alumni as part of the investment teams. I’m sure EY-P also has alumni that have exited into PE. OW alumni seem to land in “stronger”firms overall (including VC and Growth Equity in addition to PE), but I don’t know about the difference in frequency of these types of exits among those firms (as this is correlated to personally wanting to work in the buy-side or not).

You most likely won’t get the same looks as MBB. Still the option is there for sure and at respected firms with strong deal-flow.

I do suggest looking into IB if you for sure want PE though.

Hope this helps.

Note: this info is based off my own research as I also am considering investing role exits and am interested in consulting. I definitely suggest doing your own diligence and networking with people.
