Tinton Falls, New Jersey

Overview

The borough of Tinton Falls holds an epic timeline as important and intriguing as many of New Jersey’s historic areas. Seventeenth century ironworks have decorated the borough in Monmouth County. The state’s highest waterfall has graced the borough for centuries. A mineral spring has been frequented by those seeking amusement and good health. A decade-old Historic Preservation Commission ensures that tourists get to experience Tinton Falls’ unique history.

Fast Facts

• Tinton Falls is home to a mystical mineral spring. Its healing properties were said to be valued highly by the area’s natives. In 1765, the property’s owner Lewis Morris Ashfield even capitalized on the spring’s value, by telling prospective clients that the spring will benefit the owner primarily because of those who visit for good health. • Because of the body of water’s renown, the Tinton Falls Mineral Spring Company was formed in 1867. The venture was not successful because the water had precipitated after several hours. • The village was formed in 1665 when Grover realized that the power of the falls and the supplies of wood and iron make the town perfect for industrial ironworks. • Tinton Falls’ ironworks were the first enterprise in the state. It was the largest capital investment before the eighteenth century.

When to Visit

Tinton Falls enjoys a number of community-based events, but visitors are always more than welcomed. The Christmas Tree Lighting activity is one of the most anticipated events during the winter. The village’s families gather at the streets and sing carols together with the Girl Scouts. Apart from the usual countdown, the event features a live Santa Claus on a fire truck. Hot chocolate is served as a complimentary treat. During the month of August, the whole village participates in the National Night Out wherein residents and guests are given a tour of Tinton Falls’ service departments.
