Upcoming Interview KPMG Strategy

Going through Consulting recruiting right now primarily big 4. Received an interview for KPMG strategy I have it coming up next week. It is one behavioral and one scenario interview which is supposed to be similar to cases. Pretty nervous for it as I have been doing normal casing. If anyone has any advice or helpful ideas for me I would really appreciate it as I am confused by the scenario formatting.

For your upcoming KPMG Strategy interview, here's what you need to know based on the most helpful WSO content:

Behavioral Interview Tips:

  1. Polish Your Stories: Prepare stories that highlight your skills and experiences using the S-C-A-R-L framework (Situation, Complication, Action, Result, Lessons). Focus on the 9 critical consulting traits interviewers look for, such as leadership, teamwork, problem-solving, and adaptability.
  2. Be Authentic: Avoid scripting or memorizing answers. Instead, outline key bullet points for each story to ensure your delivery feels natural and genuine.
  3. Establish Rapport: The first 60-90 seconds are crucial. Build a connection with your interviewer by being personable and professional.
  4. Practice Common Questions: Be ready to answer questions like "Tell me about yourself," "Why consulting?" "Why KPMG?" and "Describe a time you navigated conflict." Use concise, impactful anecdotes.

Scenario/Case Interview Tips:

  1. Understand the Format: KPMG's scenario interview is similar to a case but may focus more on practical, real-world problem-solving rather than traditional frameworks. Be prepared to analyze a situation, synthesize information, and present logical recommendations.
  2. Logical Thinking: Create a structured approach to tackle the problem. Use an issue tree or framework tailored to the case facts, but avoid using overly templated frameworks that don't fit the scenario.
  3. Prioritize Key Information: If given materials or data, quickly identify the most relevant slides or points. Organize them to tell a coherent story.
  4. Communicate Clearly: Explain your thought process step-by-step. Even if you're unsure, showing structured reasoning and confidence can leave a positive impression.
  5. Practice with Partners: Find a good case partner to simulate the scenario format. Focus on synthesizing information and presenting insights under time pressure.

Additional Advice:

  • Behavioral and Case Balance: Don't neglect behavioral prep in favor of casing. Both are equally important, especially since KPMG evaluates fit and communication skills heavily.
  • Ask Insightful Questions: At the end of the interview, ask thoughtful questions about the role, team, or firm to demonstrate genuine interest.

Good luck with your interview! You've got this—stay calm, prepare thoroughly, and let your skills shine.
