Using a referral to get an interview
If I know someone in the Dallas office can I put them down as a referral (there is a specific spot for it) on my application if I'm hoping to be in the LA office? Or if they're in an office in Europe, can I put them down for a spot I'm hoping to get in New York? Do these referrals usually have to only be within the same office?
No, they don't always have to be within the same office. Even if he's in Dallas, it can only help you to mention that you know someone in the firm (unless this person secretly hates you). If the company actually contacts him and he puts in a good word, that's a huge advantage.
Getting a referral to get a PE interview (Originally Posted: 02/22/2010)
To get a PE interview as an I-Banking Analyst, it usually helps to get a recommendation from your MD or Director to either a recruiter or a PE firm directly. How does this process work?
Do you let your senior bankers know that you are interested in PE as an exit and then they'll contact the people they know (recruiters or PE firms)? Or will recruiters contact your MD with no involvement from you and ask who their best analysts are? Or will the recruiter ask for someone they can call as a reference after you've had an introductory interview with the recruiter?
Thanks
All of the above.
