What do you guys do?

1) What do consultants do? How does the work differ throughout seniority levels (from bottom to top)?
2) What are the similarities and differences between consulting and IB?
3) Do you have investment banking experience (internship or FT)? What made you decide to transition into consulting?

These questions have been asked before so I'd suggest reading through old 'consulting vs IB' posts on WSO and rest of Google, just keep in mind everyone has their biases. Really high level:

  1. Extremely variable. Assuming you're specifically looking to strategy consulting, typically includes making slide decks, cleaning analyzing & visualizing data, performing expert interviews and other forms of qualitative research, etc. As you get more senior, you begin to manage others in doing this and sell work to clients

  2. Consulting typically has better hours, more diversified work, more travel, more diversified exit opportunities. IB traditionally has better pay, but that's heavily dependent on bonuses

  3. No
