What should I be working towards next?

Hi all,

I'm 27yo, and a few months ago started a role in PE/VC software consulting during the "great reshuffle." I really enjoy it. I'm coming from a back office role at a BB IB and enjoy this way more. It's more client-facing, more qualitative, and just more dynamic and interesting. And I'm in a LCOL city in the SE US and this is the first year I'll pull in 6 figures before bonus. Feel like it's been a good move.

If I decide to stick with consulting for the long haul, what would be some good next steps for me? I have a B.S in Finance from a non-target. I'm not as familiar with the career progression in consulting as opposed to IB/PE/Corp Fin. If I wanted to move from a software consulting role to more strat consulting/management consulting, how would you approach that? I'm planning on starting an MBA at some point in the next 2-3 years.
