Which are the best strategy consulting firms in the UK?

Hi everyone,

I have a graduate offer from one of the Vault top 10 strategy consulting firms. A lot of the advice I hear is pretty US focused. So I just wanted to understand which firms are the key strategy consulting players in the UK market specifically. Where would be the best place to start my career if I don't have a sector focus? I'm asking because I'm hearing a lot of mixed messages regarding how good certain firms are in the UK. A ranking of the top 10 strategy players in the UK would be really useful - but I understand how subjective this can be.

I want to get a better understanding of how the firm I have an offer from compares and if I should consider applying to other firms.

Thanks!

The UK is not too different from the US with the exception of Deloitte, which doesn't have a strong strategy focus in the UK.

If you ranked them by size/revenue, the top five strategy firms would probably be MBB, Oliver Wyman, ATK

Not sure how Strategy& is doing since the takeover. I heard they lost quite a few partners, but that was not specific to the UK.

While still big in the other European markets, Roland Berger is very small in the UK

Agree with the above (I might throw in Roland Berger too). In the USA, I'm very bullish on Deloitte and believe it to be on par with MBB. However, in order to protect themselves from a hypothetical Arthur Anderson level scandal from destroying the whole thing, they have a separate partnership in the UK than the US. That said, this is starting to change as the USA partnership is beginning to buy out all the other ones (E.g. Mexico, Germany, India, China).

If you want to work on strategy engagement in the UK specifically, you should consider OC&C and LEK, both well known over there. Both are good strategy boutiques well regarded in Europein general.

Thank you all for your responses - it's given me a lot to think about. Really appreciate the help. How about consulting boutiques in the UK. The likes of Marakon, Parthenon etc. Anyone no much about them in the UK?

Thanks again!
