WLB balance for intern @MBB

I’m currently a junior and I’ll be an intern @ MBB this summer. I know the WLB balance is better for interns vs full time so I’m curious what the total hours weekly will be like.

For context I worked in PE last summer and was around 60 hours a week.

It honestly all depends on the project (I feel like this is the answer to every question about consulting, but it is).

But overall, unless you're on an intense case (A PE case or a short term strategy case), I doubt you'll be pulling more than 60 as an intern. A typical work-week might look like 12,12,12,10,8 = ~54 hours/week. A heavy week might be 13,13,13,12,8 = ~59 hours/week.

Interns rarely have ownership over a significant portion of the project, hence why the hours are a bit lower. But I do think people exaggerate hours regardless. From my examples, it is really hard to hit the 65-hour weeks that people online say.To work 65 hours/week, you'll have to hit 14,14,14,14,9 which is very high- that is the very high end of what you'll be working. That's 9 am - 11 pm 4 days/week and 9-6 on Friday (usually the people leave at ~4-4:30 on Fridays). I think the norm is 50-60 for full time analysts, with the understanding that some projects/weeks are super intense. This is unless you are struggling big time or are on a poorly managed project.
