Yale som vs berkeley haas mba for mbb ??
Hey all,
Coming from a non-profit/int dev background and trying to break into mbbd... no preference for location (woukd work internationally too)
Which school offers the best chance to get into one of these top firms?
Both schools are pretty good for MBB recruiting, but I hypothesize that Haas will give you an advantage in the SF offices.
I know Yale is pretty phenomenal in MBBD recruiting. Out of ~120 people who attend consulting events, over 40 get something in the big names, most of them McKinsey. There is a decent consulting club which meets every week, prepares you for interviews, etc.
if you want MBBD, first year summer is your best shot at breaking in.
Heard Yale has strong McKinsey ties, Haas better for overall mck, bain, bcg recruiting
Doesn't matter. Both schools will give you a solid chance at MBB generally speaking. Any advantage is marginal at best. Specifically, however, it is easier if you go to school where you want to work, because the majority of firm representation will be local i.e west coast offices for Haas and NE offices for SOM
The Poets & Quants data/methodology give some wonky results.
That said, most posters here are right on - both give similar opportunities, adjusted by Coast, but Haas probably a little stronger overall. Choose more based on fit and perhaps the industry mix in your Coast.
Oh, and MBBD is not a thing.
I agree. It works as a rough sketch, though.
They're both going to provide a fair shot for consulting. Haas will place more people out west, Yale more out east. That will be more due to self-selection; you can recruit for the opposite coast but it will be more legwork (and you'll need a story to explain why you're targeting a specific city).
I wouldn't get caught up in specific hiring datapoints/figures between the two; at the end of the day, hiring firms view the student bodies of each school as being about the same. If you really don't care about location, focus on which feels like a better fit for you. They're pretty different programs.
