Big 4 Val to Corp Dev

As the title suggests I wondering how doable is it to exit from Big 4 Valuations to Corp Dev.  I am a 3 year senior within the private equity industry group in valuations and I am very interested in lateraling into more of a deal oriented role.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, transitioning from Big 4 Valuations to Corporate Development (Corp Dev) is a common and achievable move, especially if you have relevant project experience. Here are some key insights:

  1. Transferable Skills: Your experience in valuations, particularly within the private equity industry group, provides a strong foundation. Skills like financial modeling, valuation expertise, and understanding deal structures are highly relevant to Corp Dev roles.

  2. Networking: Networking is critical. Many successful transitions involve leveraging connections within your professional network or alumni groups to identify opportunities in Corp Dev teams.

  3. Target Companies: Focus on Fortune 100 or mid-market companies with active M&A strategies. These companies often value candidates with a valuation background for their ability to assess acquisition targets and support deal execution.

  4. Timing: It's generally recommended to make the move within 1-3 years of Big 4 experience. Your current position as a 3-year senior is a good time to explore this transition.

  5. Positioning: Highlight your deal-oriented mindset and any exposure to pre-transaction work or financial reporting valuation. If you've worked on projects that involved collaboration with Corp Dev teams or strategic decision-making, emphasize those experiences.

  6. Certifications: If you have or are pursuing a CFA, it can further strengthen your profile and signal your commitment to the finance industry.

Interested in a similar path down the line. Did u transfer into Valuations or start there? Curious how the audit - TAS structure is nowadays.
