Can you switch from F500 corporate finance to corporate banking (not commercial) ?

Can you switch from corporate finance at F500 company to corporate banking/leveraged finance/ DCM ?

I was thinking of doing corporate finance for 2 years after undergrad, then do an MBA and jump to corporate banking. What do you think about my plan ? The reason I want to do corporate finance is because I can learn the business truly from all sides especially if it is a rotational program. Also I can build connections at banks and heard top MBA programs really like corp. finance jobs.

Since I want to do corporate banking in the long run, will it be better to do corporate banking internship > corporate banking FT or even commercial banking > MBA > corporate banking ?

If you want to do corporate banking for the long run, the best place to start is in corporate banking. People tend to stick around a lot longer in corporate banking than their counter parties do in investment banking, it's not as much as a 2 and out or 3 and out system.

Yea, even IB guys will have a lot of trouble getting into an MBA program after 2 years.
