Capital One - Business Analyst
Hi Guys,
I would deeply appreciate it if you could give me an inside scoop on Capital One ("what's in your pocket?") as a place of employment - work culture, people, salary, work/life, exit ops, etc.
Thanks in advance.

Career Resources
There's another thread on here about the Business Analyst. In short, everything I've heard comes down to it being a great place to start your career.
Hopefully the interviewer doesn't ask you what what CapOne's slogan is.
haha ... spotted the error --- its wallet!
Hours are modest 45-50ish. Kids go to top 10 MBAs every year.
Agree with everything said above. Are we talking internship or FT?
Internship program is a pretty good thing to have on your resume come FT recruiting. A bunch of CapOne interns end up at MBB FT.
If we're talking the FT program, there is still good MBA and corporate placement after two years.
All in all, solid program.
Thanks for your comments everyone ... I SB'ed everyone :)
If you still have questions send me a DM, I'm assuming you're full time
I was wondering about the same thing. Got an offer as Sr. BA....i heard the work is very quant based....but they advertise it as strategy. I wonder if this job opportunity is worth pursuing.... In addition, I wonder where do people go after? I dont assume you have the exit options nearly as good as other consulting firms?
PROS: Good firm, great pay compared to other similar positions. People are right they do feed into top business schools as well and it definitely has a significant strategy component
CONS: Richmond for the most part is an awful place to spend your 20s. The company culture is flat out odd.
If you are looking at Capital One BA there aren't many other positions that are both comparable and better though
DC not Richmond
I thought a significant amount of their BAs were in Richmond...
You managed to get in or?

Please help me assess this job, what are the growth opportunities? Would it boost MBA apps down the road if I chose to go that route?
The opportunity cost is a CPA designation and the path big 4 -> valuations -> finance.
Thanks for your input!
I've heard Capital One is more a marketing firm than a finance firm.
Uh, COF has a great outlook as far as finance companies go, where the hell did you hear it was more of a marketing firm? Somebody's spewing out the wrong end...
Thanks for the help guys. The job is definitely a good opportunity. Even people in the industry in Eastern Canada have heard of it and vouches for its credentials. I was lucky to have found it on WSO.
Currently planning to finish masters. Will attempt to try at this job again next year!
Alec Baldwin is a spokesperson for Capital One. Alec. Fucking. Baldwin. Get on that shit now.

Capital One Business Analyst Program (Originally Posted: 09/08/2011)
I've searched through the forum for discussions on the Business Analyst Program at Capital One but can't seem to find anything that mentions where it is located.
When I applied through the corporate website I filtered New York City as a location, but now when I look at the reviews on GlassDoor it seems as if the role is based in Virginia. Does anyone have a clue of whether or not I would be placed in NYC?
Also, any insight on what sort of answers they like in the work style/experience assessment?
I believe it is located in either VA or DC
PM me and Ill answer anything you want but Ill tell you now that there is a 1 in a billion chance you would get placed in NYC and that might be a little generous.
The program is in Richmond, VA
It's not in Richmond, it's right outside of DC. No way you will get hired for NYC, but they have a huge hiring push this year I heard. MY friend works there and he said that they are looking to hire 500 new business analysts.
Richmond, VA and McLean, VA (which is right outside D.C.). There's a spot in Texas too. I interviewed with them last year, and yes, they are in the midst of a pretty significant hiring push now.
Capital One Business Analyst Program Exit Opps (Originally Posted: 10/14/2011)
What are the exit opps for a program like this. I did a quick search on Linkedin and saw a couple of them went to investment banking?
Do you guys see any move to corporate development for other firms, how about VC/PE? Or is that a really long shot?
bump
People leave for startups, Bschool, F500s, almost anything, really depends what part of the company you're in.
Capital One Business Analyst - Similar Jobs in NY? (Originally Posted: 06/12/2012)
I've heard a lot of good things about Capital One's business analyst program for recent graduates.....solid pay (65K plus signing bonus), non-crazy hours, kids from top tier schools, etc. It's half consulting half finance, or so it seems. Problem is, those roles are only available in Richmond, DC, and Plano.
Does anyone know of similar positions (at other companies) in NY/CHI? Ideal job is data-intensive, 50-60 hours a week, with good compensation and opportunities after 2-3 years of analyst work.
Thanks.
Capital One does have a NYC office, it is really small though. Also, Capital One is opening a Chicago office in the next year.
