Career opportunities Frankfurt 2021

Hey there - given the current pandemic climate I am getting increasingly agitated with respect to job opportunities in the upcoming year so naturally I am considering multiple career opportunities - one of them is geared around finance.

My background - I am currently studying at a tech uni in the Netherlands, and I will graduate in about 6 months (currently interning at a Oil&gas supermajor). What happens next is a big mystery, given that both my company and other companies in other industries I am interested in (consulting) have halted recruitment processes indefinitely. Previously I was considering during an internship in finance but given my profile I knew I had much better chances at oil&gas. Now I'd say I have a pretty strong profile in terms of academic/extracurricular/strong internship experience and + I am also close to B2 German so I am thinking whether it is relevant to invest some time into trying to break into top companies there in terms of CF where I could stay for 2-3 years and develop myself and then leverage that to get into consulting or go for an MBA.

Problem is I know next to nothing about the current situation in Frankfurt with respect to full time recruiting or top career opportunities and my uni alumni network there is virtually non existent.

I was hoping if someone could share some info on this, or even works there to help me out!

thanks in advance :)

I work in Frankfurt in Big4 consulting. We are slowly starting to hire people again. Although most of those people were supposed to get hired earlier this year, e.g. teams giving full-time offers to previous interns. I think early next year hiring is supposed to normalise. But everything is uncertain at this point. Can't give you any pointers on MBB or other industries unfortunately. Good luck!

Thanks for your reply! A question - how stringent is the big4 in frankfurt regarding german proficiency? Do you do majority of your business in english or does it depend on a multitude of factors? would you say B2 at least in the beginning should be enough? many thanks :)

In Frankfurt the Big4 firms employ more than 10k people in various teams. So I'm unable to give you a one-size-fits-all answer. My team is advising banks on risk projects. Aside from Deutsche Bank they are not international at all. So my team is screening for German proficiency during the hiring process. I have heard that teams advising other industries (manufacturing, consumer goods) and in other areas (people & organisation) are much more international. But that is second-hand knowledge. I think you should try connecting with people on LinkedIn. Don't have to be alumni. I went to a really small uni and didn't have a single alumni in finance or in Frankfurt. People are usually willing to help out, especially when you're still a student. Should be something like: Hey, I am a student about to graduate early next year. I want to get into consulting and I want to make my start in Frankfurt. Now I'm wondering about my best way forward since I'm international. Would you have a few minutes to have a chat? Thank you.
