There are a couple of companies that recruit at Johnson specifically for these roles (Liberty Mutual and Corning come to mind off the top of my head). If it's a specific post-MBA role where you're part of a class it's possible to get these roles without previous consulting/IB experience. If it's a single job posting that's open to anyone, MBA student or not, you'll be at a major disadvantage.

 

I made the move from MBA to Corp Dev without IB but the above posters are correct, I'm an exception to the rule. Fewer and fewer companies are hiring straight out and it looks like LDP's are the best way to work your way into a group full-time. Corp Strategy without consulting is equally difficult simply because any corp strategy group is ultimately a cost center and they will want to hire people who have knowledge of the company's businesses, market, competitors, trends, etc. instead of spending resources to train someone up.
