Considering posting on Linkedin about looking for a new role…

It’s been such an absolute bloody nightmare job hunt that words can’t describe how bad it’s been for me. It’s been a full year since I’ve been laid off from my last Corp Dev role (disregard my employment info as I was in Corp Dev). I’ve been on countless interviews majority of times made it through final rounds only to have my offer rescinded or ghosted after final rounds (not all the time but 80% of the time its that). That’s fine I’ll move on but then reaching out to previous co-workers, people I’ve interviewed with in the past, people I’ve helped out during networking, recruiters (even the snake oil salesman kind) only to get ghosted. I just wanted someone in my profession to hear me out so thankfully I have my family. Not to sound whiny, but its been rough to say the least. Hoping to lateral to back banking but its nearly impossible with this job market. My only hope is to keep networking and applying while gaining some relevant skills like volunteering my services to my local community like small businesses.

I’ve made a fair amount of connections on Linkedin and honestly thinking about just posting on there to let people know I’m looking for work and happy to offer any career advice in return. I have thought about it for days on end and really contemplating on doing it. I rarely post on there and haven't updated my profile in a while but its been really rough for me. Not to sound self-centered but I feel kind of embarrassed to raise the bat signal and say “hey look can you get me a job” but I feel like I’ve come to the cross roads and tried everything. Can’t bet on it but we’ll see I can always delete it and leave the “Open to Work” banner on. Sorry for the long-winded message and any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Imo you shouldn't. I've seen these posts and often times the responses are like "commenting for reaching" and "you'll get through this". No real value comes from this. I would just keep applying but it sounds like you need to take a break from the search and widen the net for the jobs you are looking for.

So sorry to hear you'er going through this - wish you all the best of luck with your job search! the market is really tough, I'm going through something similar - being ghosted by recruiters, countless processes leading nowhere. Hoping for a light at the end of the tunnel for both of us!

This is a really tough market. It took me many hundreds of apps and 30+ processes to find another job after getting laid off late last year. I had just graduated college and got on the desk a few months before my bank cut a bunch of first year analysts.

I wouldn’t post something like that on LinkedIn because realistically only some of your connections can help you out and few are likely to comment or DM you. If you want to tap your LinkedIn network you should directly reach out to people you know and ask for advice.

It sucks your recruiting effort has been so tough. I think you should find an adjacent job and work to lateral back into finance when the market improves.
