Corp Dev Intern Interview

Hey everyone, I have an interview coming up for a Corporate Development Intern role. The company is a Data Analytics firm and I’m having trouble finding information on what to expect. What technicals should I be ready for and what should I expect overall? Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Depending on your experience, I would not expect it to be too tech heavy for Intern Interview.

I would say it would be more behavioral in nature with a few technicals sprinkled in. Read up on the Company and their industry. Also, be prepared to answer why you want to do Corp Dev with the organization.

The M&I or WSO guide should be more than helpful from a tech and behavioral standpoint.

I agree with the comment above. From my experience, I would not anticipate the interview to be too heavy on the technical side. AT MOST be prepared to speak to the common 3 valuation methods (comps, PT, DCF). Also, potentially some simple financial statement analysis (how they tie, depreciation up $10 effect, etc). However, I would not focus too much on these technicals. Instead, I would have a solid understanding of the industry the corporate works in as well as having a genuine answer as to "why Corp Dev?". Working in corp dev has a much different feel day to day than other M&A focused jobs. Understanding company operations, potential synergies, etc., during the diligence process is crucial. Also, there is a lot of work with NDAs, LOIs, APAs, etc. that most juniors in IB are not very exposed to. However, I doubt that that knowledge will be important for an internship interview. Having a compelling story and displaying confidence will be the main focal points to get the offer.

Best of luck.

I ask every interviewee for their story, why Corp Dev, why this industry, why this company.

If this is an M&A role, someone will likely ask about an acquisition idea. Be able to walk through the strategic rationale, where it would fit with the rest of the company, and be prepared to discuss actionability / business model/ financials / valuation / etc if applicable.

I also throw in technical questions, but seems like I’m in the minority there. Be sure to know the business model / lingo of the company you are applying to.
