Corp Dev Talent

I am a VP at a private fund investing in music royalties based in NYC. I am looking to hire 1-2 corp dev [analysts/associates]. This hire would work hand-in-hand with the deal team and our portco(s) to diligence and acquire music assets (underwriting, negotiating, executing, and monitoring). We currently have ~$200MM deployed, aiming to put out $4-500MM over the next 12-24 months. Looking for people with a banking background ideally, but open to other candidates as well. ~4 days/week in office, some flexibility for the right candidate.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some key points to consider for your Corp Dev hiring needs:

  1. Ideal Candidate Background:

    • Banking experience is highly valued for Corp Dev roles, as it provides strong financial modeling, valuation, and deal execution skills.
    • Candidates with private equity, FP&A, or consulting backgrounds could also be considered, especially if they have relevant experience in underwriting, due diligence, or asset acquisition.
  2. Responsibilities:

    • The role aligns closely with typical Corp Dev tasks: underwriting, negotiating, executing, and monitoring acquisitions. Candidates should have strong Excel and PowerPoint skills, as these are essential for success in such roles.
    • Experience in working with portfolio companies and managing post-acquisition integration would be a plus.
  3. Compensation Expectations:

    • For analysts/associates in Corp Dev, total compensation (base + bonus) typically ranges from $100K to $150K, depending on experience and location. NYC-based roles might skew toward the higher end of this range.
  4. Work Environment:

    • A 4-day in-office schedule with some flexibility is reasonable, especially for NYC. Highlighting this flexibility could help attract top talent, particularly those who value work-life balance.
  5. Networking for Candidates:

    • If you're open to candidates outside of banking, networking within WSO forums or reaching out to professionals in adjacent fields (e.g., FP&A, consulting) could yield strong candidates.
    • Consider targeting individuals with a passion for music or entertainment, as this could align well with your fund's focus on music royalties.

It sounds like a fascinating opportunity at the nexus of music and finance! An excellent position for someone who enjoys negotiating and working with alternative asset classes.
