I would say it depends on whether you have an IB background and who you are working for. If its a Fortune 500 and you have M&A/or top IB experience, then I definitely think you can move to an equity HF. Also, if you are working in a sector that is seeing a lot of turmoil or consolidation, that would likely get you in the door at a HF. If you do not have a previous IB background then you will have trouble making it past the recruiters who screen people out based on where you went to college, where you did banking, where you work now and if you are relatively junior your GPA and ACT/SAT. Some recruiters no matter how senior you are will not send your resume if you dont have top GPA and test scores even if you have been successful in the business for 20 years.
