Corporate finance career paths

Hi, looking for some career advice I am graduating this upcoming May and just accepted an offer to join a finance rotational program at a major utility. It’s a great opportunity to rotate from commercial development to FP&A and so forth.

IB was something I wanted to pursue but wasn’t able to break into. Just wanted to know if that ship has sailed. Would I be able to get my MBA and break in then or would I already need to have had experience in IB prior to my potential MBA.

Really looking to see what type of options there are and if I have the chance later down the road to pursue IB.

Thank you grateful for any response

I went through an FLDP. One of my classmates completed the FLDP, did another year or two with the company, got his FT MBA (top 30 school, outside M7) and is now in BB IB. Absolutely possible.

I realized in college the cards were stacked against me for IB- decided to go the corporate path but with the goal of getting promotions at a brisk pace. If you are the kind of person who would succeed in IB or PE or HFs, you will likely also succeed in corporate. The money won't be as good (especially early on) but can still be great, the hours will be better and you can live in lower COL areas. To each his own.
